Why the Tuna

I don't know about you guys but tuna is my favorite fillet of fish. I have been on many charter trips and have caught a few of these behemoths myself. But in the latest report by the UN stated "that tuna is the most consumed and the second most caught fish in the world (ATuna)." Because of the amazing taste and size of the fish it is known throughout the world. This creates a huge market for the Bluefin. making them a hot commonity fished all over the world. This caused an emmense amount of overfishing through unethical ways. Commercial fishing of the tuna is now done with "longlines, trawling and the use of gillnets (WorldWildlife)." These methods lead to habitat destruction and bycatch. Due to these overexploitations of the king of the sea they were put on the endangered species list on June 20, 2016 (NOAA). Meaning the fish was added very recently so many conservation efforts have begun to take place. See that tab to check out the efforts being made to save the Bluefin.
